The Index consists of basic grouping index and reference indexes. The index is based on the "Laspeyres-type formula with fixed weights". The calendar year 2020 is used as the base year for the indexes. Considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the average value of 2019 and 2020 is used for the base year weight as a special case. Numbers of service items to be priced is 146, including as well the consumption tax. Statistical Survey on Commodity Prices in Agriculture See "8 Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries ". This chapter covers the Commodity Price Index of Agriculture. Commodity Price Index of Agriculture This index is compiled and released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The index consists of the Price Index of Agricultural Products and the Price Index of Materials for Agricultural Production. Number of items is 112 for agricultural products, 150 for materials for agricultural production. The current index is based on the year 2020. The index is calculated using the Laspeyres index (standard time-weighted relative method formula).The weight used to calculate the annual average price index is based on the average per farm management body in Japan according to the results of the 2020 Agricultural Management Survey by Management Structure (all farm management bodies). Agricultural products are calculated from agricultural gross profits, and agricultural production materials are calculated from farm management costs. The Price Index of Agricultural Products This index is an index of the prices of individual agricultural products sold by agricultural management bodies and is compiled into 10 categories for each similar product group. The Price Index of Materials for Agricultural Production This index is an index of retail prices of individual materials necessary for agricultural production purchased by agricultural management bodies. It is compiled into 12 categories for each similar product group. Consumer Price Index This index has been compiled monthly by the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for the purpose of measuring changes of various goods and services purchased by households all over Japan, thereby analysing the movement of prices in time series. The year for the base and weights of current index is 2020 and in principle the index is compiled, based on retail prices of each municipality and items obtained from "Trend Survey" of the Retail Price Survey (described later).Index items to be priced are total 582 items which are selected according to the relative importance in total living expenditures, representativeness in price movement, and availability in price survey, using the Laspeyres-type formula (standard time-weighted relative method formula). The weights are calculated on the basis of average monthly living expenditures per household by commodity of two-or-more-person households in 2019 and 2020 obtained from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (see "22 Family Income and Expenditure"). In consideration of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are calculated by also using the consumption expenditures in 2019 in addition to those in 2020. Retail Price Survey (Fundamental Statistical Survey) This survey is conducted annually by the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications with the aim of clarifying monthly trends in prices and price structures by region. It collects the retail prices of commodities essential to consumers' daily lives, as well as service charges. It consists of two parts, namely, the "Trend Survey" for clarifying monthly trends in commodity prices and the "Structural Survey" for clarifying price structures by region.
