19 Labour and Wages 445540,000 households and about 1,080,000 persons 15 years old and over residing in these households. Survey on Employment Trends The survey has been conducted twice a year, the first half and the latter half, since 1964 by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare for the purpose of analysing industry, size, occupation and interregional mobility of workforce by surveying the characteristics and circumstances of newly hired employees and separated employees in major industries. The survey covers 15,010 establishments (for the 2023 survey) with 5 or more regular employees, sampled from all industries, excluding "A-Agriculture and Forestry", "B-Fisheries", "Domestic services", of "N-Living-related and Personal Services and Amusement Services", "Foreign governments and international agencies in Japan" of "R-Services, n.e.c." and "S-Government, excluding elsewhere classified" together with 57,625 persons (for the 2023 survey) who are sampled from the newly-hired employees in the sample establishments and 73,846 persons (for the 2023 survey) sampled from the employees separated from the above establishments are surveyed through the respective establishments. Employment Security Service Statistics This statistics show the number of job offers, job applications, and employment opportunities at public employment security offices (excluding new graduates). The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare publishes the "Status of General Employment Placement" on a monthly basis for the purpose of compiling a list of employment opportunities and other indicators. In addition to the "Status of General Employment Placement," the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has statistics on employment placement including the "Employment Placement Status of New Graduates (High and Junior High School)," which compiles the job searches, job offers, and employment status of new high and junior high school graduates, and the "Employment Placement Status of Persons with Disabilities, etc.," which compiles the employment placement status of persons with disabilities and creates an index of employment rate. These statistics are published in this chapter. Worker Dispatching Business Reports Under the Worker Dispatching Act, worker dispatching business reports are required to be submitted to the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare by dispatching business operators regarding their operations as of 1 June. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare publishes preliminary statistics based on the results of the worker dispatching business reports. This chapter covers the total number of places of business, the number of dispatched workers, and the number of day workers dispatched. School Basic Survey (Fundamental Statistical Survey) See "25 Education". This chapter covers the number of new school graduates who found employment by industry. Productivity Statistics Productivity statistics measure labor productivity (physical labor productivity index) in the mining and manufacturing sector and major industrial sectors on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Since 1958, they have been published monthly by the Japan Productivity Center as indicators of efficiency by industry and business type. Basic Survey on Labour Unions The survey was initiated in 1947 under the name of Survey on Labour Unions as a complete count survey in order to clarify actual conditions of the organisation of labour unions. It was renamed to Basic Survey on Trade Unions in 1948. In 1983, the name of the survey was changed to the present one, and, at the same time, the survey became a part of the Survey on Industrial Relations. The survey is conducted in July, covering all the labour unions in Japan, by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as of the end of June every year.
