Number of Postal Items and Packages Received The number of postal items and packages received is compiled by Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd., and published annually. Indices of Tertiary Industry Activity The Indices of Tertiary Industry Activity have been compiled and published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from 1978, aiming at comprehensively grasping the production activity of businesses belonging to the tertiary industry by a unified method. The indices are calculated by taking the averages of service production activity index series of individual businesses using weights obtained from added values of the Input-Output Table of the base year (Laspeyres-formula). The base year for the current indices is 2020. While the indices cover businesses belonging to one of 13 major industry categories following the Japan Standard Industrial Classification (hereinafter referred to as JSIC) as indicated below, industry classification of the 2020 base indices follows 10 major industry categories obtained through the partial reclassification of the JSIC. In addition, the indices, following the 13 major industry categories based on the JSIC, have been published as a reference series by METI.
