The household section is conducted by mailing method at households randomly chosen by the two-stage stratified sampling method taking prefecture and city size into account from those in which the head is 20 years of age or older as of 1 April of the survey year and its members aged six or older. Survey on the State of Informatization of Education in Schools Every year since 1988, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has conducted a survey on the state of informatisation of education in schools, with the aim of clarifying the state of the Internet access environment in schools and teachers' ICT utilisation leadership, as well as ICT equipment developed by local governments for school education and educational administration, along with obtaining basic data for studying and formulating educational policies through the national and local governments. The subjects of the survey were public elementary schools, junior high schools, compulsory education schools, senior high schools, special needs schools and secondary education schools established as of 1 March in the year of the survey.
