Commodities covered by this survey are: items that account for 1% or more of the total production value of all flowers in the past two years in a row, as well as the subtotals of cut flowers (chrysanthemums, carnations, roses, etc.), bulbs, potted plants (cyclamen, tropical orchids, plant with beautiful leaves, etc.), and bedding plants (pansies, etc.). Statistical Survey on Livestock This survey has been conducted annually by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in order to clarify the situation of livestock production industry by presenting statistics on major livestock (the Survey on Pigs, the Survey on Laying Hens and the Survey on Broilers) and raisers, and to provide basic data for the policy on livestock. The survey is composed as of 1 February. The survey covers raisers of pigs, raisers of egg-laying keeping 1,000 or more adult female chickens (including those keeping 1,000 or more respectively of chicks and broiler breeders alone)), and raisers of broilers (those with at least 3,000 broilers shipped per year), and the raisers are divided into special (non-profit) and general (for-profit) tiers. The special tier and the general tier are surveyed in their entirety, while the general tier is surveyed by means of a sample survey. Note that the survey is suspended in years that the Census of Agriculture and Forestry is implemented. Livestock Statistics This survey is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the purpose of grasping the number of major livestock (dairy cattle and beef cattle) by size and feeding status based on administrative record information and related statistics, clarifying the current status of livestock production in Japan, and providing basic data for promoting livestock administration. The survey was conducted as of 1 February, and individual data (individual data obtained by requesting the use of the Search Service of Individual Identification Information of Cattle from the National Livestock Breeding Center) are used for aggregation. Statistical Survey on Livestock Products Marketing This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the aim to grasp the number of slaughtered animals and marketing quantity of livestock, and to provide basic materials for the policies such as control of production and shipments of livestock and the stabilisation of price. The survey is composed of Survey on Slaughterhouse, Survey on Hen Eggs Marketing, Survey on Poultry Marketing and Survey on Meat Market. This chapter covers Survey on Slaughterhouse and Survey on Hen Eggs Marketing. Statistical Survey on Slaughterhouse The purpose of this survey is to grasp the number of pigs, cattle, and horses slaughtered at all slaughterhouses nationwide and to provide basic data for various measures such as production and shipment adjustment as well as price stabilization of livestock products. The survey covers all slaughterhouses that conduct slaughter inspections under the Slaughterhouse Act and that have been established with the permission of the governor or mayor of the city specified by Cabinet Order under the provisions of the Community Health Act. Statistical Survey on Hen Eggs Marketing The purpose of this survey on hen egg distribution is to grasp the amounts of hen eggs collected and shipped at major hen egg collection and shipment organisations nationwide and to provide basic data for various measures such as production and shipment adjustment as well as price stabilisation of hen eggs. The survey covers hen egg collection and shipment organisations nationwide with an annual handled volume of 10 tons or more, selected in the order of the direct collection volume (within the prefecture), whose accumulated collection/shipment volume reaches 60 percent of the total of the respective prefecture.
