268 9 鉱工業 9 Mining and Manufacturing This chapter covers mining, manufacturing and indices of mining and manufacturing. The section on mining contains statistics on mining establishments, persons engaged in mining, mining production and mineral products. The section on manufacturing contains statistics on manufacturing establishments, persons engaged in manufacturing, manufacturing production, manufacturing products and supply and demand. The section on indices of mining and manufacturing contains various indices on the industrial activities of the mining and manufacturing. For the supply and demand of petroleum and coal products, see "11 Energy and Water", and for employment indices, wage indices and index of labour productivity, see "19 Labour and Wages". Economic Census for Business Activity (See "7 Business Activities") Current Survey of Production of METI (Fundamental Statistical Survey) The survey has been conducted monthly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since 1948 with the aims of clarifying current productive activities in the mining and manufacturing industries and obtaining basic data for measures concerning those industries. The survey covers producers of the minerals and industrial products listed in the Annex to the Regulations on the Current Survey of Production of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It surveys establishments that fall within the scope of the production items listed in each category. In addition, establishments that manage the sales of the production items of the above-mentioned establishments or establishments that outsource the production of production items to the above-mentioned establishments and fall within the scope of the production items listed in each category of the Annex (specified establishments) are also surveyed. Survey on Movement of Food Industry The survey is conducted to grasp the conditions of food industry. The planning and conduct of the survey and analysis of the survey results are entrusted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to Food Marketing Research and Information Centre. With the survey results, analysis of monthly production of processed food made of rice, wheat, soy beans, etc. is made, and at the end of every fiscal year, the conditions of processed food in the year and the factor for the movement are analysed. Non-ferrous Metal Supply and Demand Statistics Survey The survey was conducted monthly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry starting from 1952 in order to ascertain the state of supply and demand for non-ferrous metals, etc. However, it has been conducted by the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy since 2002. It covers establishments that produce or sell non-ferrous metals, etc. and consumers (establishments that consume non-ferrous metals, etc.). Machinery Orders The survey has been conducted monthly by the Cabinet Office in order to obtain the data on the equipment investment as early as possible and to obtain basic materials for business trend analysis. The survey on actual orders is conducted at the end of every month, and the survey on the prospects is conducted at the end of every quarter, by the mail or via the Internet. The survey covers major machinery manufacturers selected so that the share of sample companies in national production accounted for about 80 percent in 1985. It is based on 280 companies as of April 1987, when the survey was started.
