Setting up of the 2011 Economic Census Planning Office

   As of 1 April 2008, 2011 Economic Census Planning Office was set up in the Economic Structure Statistics Division to take charge of planning and drafting the Economic Census scheduled in 2011.

   Traditional industrial statistical surveys were implemented in different years and periods. Therefore, a comprehensive data set of national industrial activities was not available, even if the sector-wise statistics were put together.

   The 2011 Economic Census will survey a whole range of economic activities, including accounting items, for the same reference period utilizing the survey frame derived from the 2009 Economic Census. The result is expected to be used as bases for industrial policies and estimates of the System of National Accounts (SNA).

   The SBJ and METI will prepare for the 2011 Census in cooperation with relevant ministries and organizations. The office started with seven staff members of the SBJ and the METI.
