Implementation of Various Economic Statistical Surveys under the Influence of the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
The Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications conducts annual surveys targeting enterprises, etc., including the Economic Conditions Survey. The results of these surveys are indispensable for grasping the reality of society and economy and for the government to take adequate measures not only in ordinary times but also in a time of emergency like nowadays.
Taking utmost care to prevent infection, while also making more than enough consideration for the situation which the target entities are put in, we conduct statistical surveys and steadily clarify the latest social and economic situation.

Economic Conditions Survey
The Economic Conditions Survey clarifies the structure of manufacturing and service industries, such as their added values, every year, and is used as source statistics for National Accounts (annual estimates of GDP), and also contributes to making effective administrative policies based on a more precise understanding of the economic structure and assessment of economic conditions.
Unincorporated Enterprise Survey
The Unincorporated Enterprise Survey is used as basic data for national and local governments for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises. It is also used for the estimate of GDP.
Survey of Research and Development
The Survey of Research and Development is used as basic data for formulating the Science and Technology Basic Plan and other measures related to the promotion of science and technology. It is also used for the estimate of GDP. The data of the survey is provided to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and other organizations for international comparison on the reality of science and technology research activities.
