This is the fourth edition of the "Guide to Official Statistics in Japan", compiled by the Director-General for Policy Planning on Statistical Standards, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, with a great deal of generous support and contribution extended to the editing Division by the relevant statistical agencies of the Japanese Government.
This publication aims to provide overall information about official statistics of Japan that may be useful to overseas statistical producers and users.
The first edition of this publication was issued in 1999. The second and the third ones were published in 2001 and 2004, respectively. And in editing the latest edition, as in the previous three editions, we have been taken into consideration that the readers may most easily grasp the overall system and actual conditions of our up-to-date official statistics.
