Time Use
(1) In 1996, the weekly average of time allocation per day to the primary activities was 10 hours 32 minutes, the secondary activities 7 hours 18 minutes, and the tertiary activities 6 hours 9 minutes. More time was allocated to the primary and tertiary activities than in 1991, while the secondary activities decreased.
(2) Among the secondary activities, work time decreased much especially on Saturday.
(3) Men allocated more time to housework and the related work than in 1991, however, there is still a wide gap between sexes.

Leisure Activities during the Past Year
(1) Persons engaged in any sport activity during the past year (October 1995 to September 1996) amounted 76 . 0 % of total population 10 years and over. According to the type of activity, the highest rate was observed in bowling (29 . 1 %), followed by light physical exercise, taking walk as a sport and swimming.
(2) Persons engaged in any social activity during the past year amounted 26 . 9 % and any voluntary social activity 25 . 3 %. The women's participation rate was higher than the men's rate.
(3) Persons who enjoyed travel and excursion during the past year amounted 82 . 8 % and travel (at least an overnight stay) 71 . 5 %. Sightseeing to foreign countries of travel amounted 10 . 4 %, and especially for 20 to 29 years of women, the rate observed more than 20 %.
