2. Characteristics of Welfare and Nursing Services for The Aged
Fukuoka has the highest number of establishments per person aged 65 and over
With regard to number of establishments of welfare and nursing service for the aged ("Special nursing home for the elderly", "Care and health services facilities for the aged", "Fee charging home for the aged" and "Home care help services") by prefecture, these establishments tend to be distributed in prefectures that are home to a high number of people aged 65 and over. The 10 prefectures with the highest populations of people aged 65 and over (Tokyo, Osaka, Kanagawa, Aichi, Hokkaido, Saitama, Hyogo, Chiba, Fukuoka, Shizuoka) account for 50.1% of all people aged 65 and over, and 54.0% of establishments of welfare and nursing service for the aged.
With regard to the number of establishments per 1 thousand persons aged 65 and above, 0.75 establishments in Fukuoka is the highest, followed by 0.70 establishments in Osaka, 0.70 establishments in Okinawa, 0.70 establishments in Hyogo, and 0.69 establishments in Hiroshima.
Within the category of establishments of welfare and nursing service for the aged and with regard to the number of establishments providing nursing service in facilities ("Special nursing home for the elderly" and "Care and health services facilities for the aged"), 0.39 establishments in Kagoshima is the highest, followed by 0.38 establishments in Kumamoto, 0.38 establishments in Saga, 0.37 establishments in Okinawa, and 0.36 establishments in Miyazaki.
Within the category of establishments of welfare and nursing service for the aged and with regard to the number of establishments providing a nursing service at home ("Fee charging home for the aged" and "Home care help services"), 0.50 establishments in Osaka is the highest, followed by 0.49 establishments in Tokyo, 0.46 establishments in Kanagawa, 0.42 establishments in Hyogo, and 0.42 establishments in Fukuoka. Establishments providing nursing service at home tend to be distributed in prefectures that have a large population residing in big cities.
