Seasonally adjusted figures are calculated by removing seasonal components from the original series, using the U.S. Census method (X12-ARIMA (X-11 default; sigmalim = (9.8, 9.9))). Further explanation on seasonal adjustment is described in Appendix 3 "Sampling Method, Estimation Method, and Sampling Errors of Estimates"(PDF:105KB).   3. Seasonal adjustment has been revised retroactively by adding new data for the twelve months of 2009. As a result, seasonally adjusted figures in this annual report are not necessarily equal to those in the 2008 annual report or in the 2009 preliminary report.   4. The seasonal factors for 2010 are the predicted seasonal factors.   5. In the Labour Force Survey results, the number of employed persons is classified by the Japan Standard Industrial Classification (JSIC). With the 12th revision of the JSIC, the Statistics Bureau started providing the Labour Force Survey results by the new industrial classification from January 2009 results, and computed 2007-2008 results retroactively. As for the data before 2006, the estimated figures are available as reference.   6. Concerning the seasonally adjusted figures for unemployed person and unemployment rate aged 65 years old or more, figures for males and females are not computed.

Precision of data is not as sufficient as that for the results for whole Japan as the sampling design is not based on prefectures and the number of samples in each prefecture is relatively small.(excluding Hokkaido, Okinawa)   2. Notes on the statistical tables

1. In the Labour Force Survey results, the number of employed persons is classified by the Japan Standard Industrial Classification (JSIC). With the 12th revision of the JSIC, the Statistics Bureau started providing the Labour Force Survey results by the new industrial classification from January 2009 results, and computed 2007-2008 results retroactively.

   As for the data before 2006, figures of industries which have no or small influence by the revision are shown.
2. The dispatched workers from temporary labour agency are requested to report the industry of the establishments which they register with, and this means that they are classified into "Services, N.E.C." sector. The industries of the establishments which they are dispatched to are not surveyed in the Labour Force Survey.
3. Concerning the number of employed persons by industry / "number of persons engaged in enterprise", attention needs to be paid when comparing the change over the year because of the postal service privatization on 1 October 2007.

4. Attention needs to be paid when comparing the change over the year because the number of weekdays in the survey week (*) is not always the same.
   * The last seven days of every month. As for December, 20th to 26th.
5. The benchmark population for the estimation was revised to the 2005 Census-based population estimates in January 2007 for Basic tabulation, and in Jan.-Mar. 2007 for Detailed Tabulation.
6. In the "Detailed Tabulation", the inmates of reformatory institutions and the personnel resided in Self- Defence Forces areas are excluded from the tabulation. And the "Detailed Tabulation" sample universe covers only the second month of the second year sample in the "Basic Tabulation". Figures in the "Detailed Tabulation" are not necessarily correspond with those in the "Basic Tabulation" because of the difference in the coverage.
7. Figures may not add up to totals because figures are rounded to ten thousand or "unclassifiable/not reported" is included in totals.
8. Figures for "change", "percentage of change", "percentage distribution" are calculated from the figures rounded to ten thousand. "*" indicates that the percentage is not computed because the denominator is too small.
9. "0" indicates that the figure is less than half of the given unit. "-" indicates that the figure does not exist.
10. The benchmark population for the estimate was revised to the 2005 Census-based population estimates in January 2007 (refer to appendix 3)(PDF:105KB).
11. Along with the revision of Japan Standard Industrial Classification (JSIC, Mar. 2002), the data are shown by New Standard Industrial Classification from the January 2003 survey results. As for the "Time series table, Whole Japan", figures of industries which have no or small influence by the revision are shown, which are "Agriculture", "Forestry", "Non-agricultural industries", "Fisheries", "Mining", "Construction", "Electricity, gas, heat supply and water", "Wholesale and retail trade" and "Government (not elsewhere classified)".
12. Attention needs to be paid when comparing the change over the year because of the postal service privatization on 1 October 2007.
