Seasonally adjusted figures are calculated by removing seasonal components from the original series, using the U.S. Census method (X12-ARIMA (X-11 default; sigmalim = (9.8, 9.9))).   2. The data carried for seasonal adjustments are the compatible time-series data that are adjusted to the effects of the methodological reform in 1967 and the benchmark revision in 1975. On this account , the data before 1977 is different from the data of the annual report published in each year. In addition, the calculation of the seasonal adjustment value used the data presented here.   3. "*" indicates that Okinawa-ken is not included in the figures. The data excluding Okinawa-ken prior to July1972 and the data including Okinawa-ken since July 1972 are used for the seasonal adjustments.   4. Seasonal adjustment has been revised retroactively by adding new data for the twelve month of 2008. As a result, seasonally adjusted figures in this annual report are not necessarily equal to those in the 2007 annual report or in the 2008 preliminary report.

Precision of data is not as sufficient as that for the results for whole Japan as the sampling design is not based on prefectures and the number of samples in each prefecture is relatively small.(excluding Hokkaido, Okinawa)   2. The figures are model-based estimates by prefecture. However, the estimation method for Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Aichi, Osaka, Okinawa adopt the ratio estimation.   3. he figures are added results of previous year and recaluculated subsequently revisions to historical data are made when the release of first quarter every year.

Notes on the statistical tables

About results of the labour force survey

1. The benchmark population for the estimate was revised to the 2005 Census-based population estimates in January 2007 (refer to appendix 3)(PDF:84KB).
2. Along with the revision of Japan Standard Industrial Classification (JSIC, Mar. 2002), the data are shown by New Standard Industrial Classification from the January 2003 survey results. As for the "Time series table, Whole Japan", figures of industries which have no or small influence by the revision are shown, which are "Agriculture", "Forestry", "Non-agricultural industries", "Fisheries", "Mining", "Construction", "Electricity, gas, heat supply and water", "Wholesale and retail trade" and "Government (not elsewhere classified)".
3. Attention needs to be paid when comparing the change over the year because of the postal service privatization on 1 October 2007.

Notes on the use

1. Figures may not add up to totals because figures are rounded to ten thousand or "unclassifiable / not reported" is included in totals.
2. Figures for "change", "percentage of change", "percentage distribution", etc. are calculated from the figures rounded to ten thousand.
3. "0" indicates that the figure is less than half of the given unit.
4. "-" indicates that the figure does not exist.
5. "*" indicates that the percentage is not computed because the denominator is too small (less than 100 thousand).
