1 Occupation
The rate of increase is highest in the "service workers" category.
- A breakdown of employed persons (62,977,960) 15 years of age and over by each of four occupational sectors, namely "agriculture, forestry and fisheries occupations," "production and transport occupations," "sales and service occupations," and "clerical, technical and managerial occupations" shows the largest number to be in "clerical, technical and managerial occupations" at 22,351,724 (35.5% of employed persons), followed by "production and transport occupations" at 20,690,883 (32.9%), "sales and service occupations" at 16,049,391 (25.5%), and "agriculture, forestry and fishery occupations" at 3,149,337 (5.0%).
- A breakdown of employed persons by major group of occupations shows the largest number to be "production process workers and laborers" at 18,433,062 (29.3% of employed persons), followed by "clerical and related workers" at 12,063,827 (19.2%), "sales workers" at 9,491,850 (15.1%), "professional and technical workers" at 8,489,745 (13.5%), and "service workers" at 5,561,829 (8.8%).
- A comparison of the number of employed persons with that in 1995 by major group of occupations shows the highest rate of increase to be in "service workers" at 10.6%, followed by "protective service workers" up 6.2 %, and "professional and technical workers" up 6.0%, while managers and officials" are down 32.2%, "agricultural, forestry and fisheries workers" 17.3% and "workers in transport and communications occupations" 5.4%.
- In a breakdown of employed persons by occupational major group and sex, males were more likely to be in occupations such as "workers in transport and communications occupations" (95.2%), "protective service workers" (94.9%) and "managers and officials" (88.8%), while females were more likely to be in occupations such as "workers in services" (64.7%) and "clerical and related workers" (62.4%).
- A breakdown of the ratio of employed workers by prefecture and major group of occupations shows the highest ratio of "production process workers and laborers" to be in Gifu-ken (37.3%) and highest ratio of "clerical and related workers" to be in Tokyo-to (23.2%). Osaka-fu had the highest ratio of "sales workers" (18.3%) and Kanagawa-ken the highest ratio of "workers in professional and technical occupations" (16.9%).
