Survey of Household Economy Structure of Survey

Households to be covered by the Survey of Household Economy comprise approximately 52 million households (the figure for 2010 Census) throughout Japan. Since it is unfeasible to survey all of these households, however, approximately 30,000 households are sampled by statistical methods and surveyed. Based on such survey results, the figures for all households throughout Japan are estimated. 

Method of Selection of Survey Household

The entire land of Japan is divided into areas consisting of about 50 households each, and survey areas are selected from these areas. Ten households are randomly selected from all households residing in the selected survey area.

-Plan survey.
-Select areas to be covered by the survey.

-Holds enumerator training session and enumerator job briefing session.
-Draws up a list of areas is drawn up and selects the survey households.

-Visits the selected households and asks them to fill out the questionnaires.

-Receives and fills out the questionnaires.

-Collect the questionnaires and submit them to the private research institute.
  Submission by mail
-Mail the questionnaires to the private research institute.
