Summary of the Results of Internal Migration in 2004

1. Number of inter-prefectural migrants decreased for 9 straight years
1.1. Number of Japanese inter-prefectural migrants in 2004 was 2,637 thousand persons, decreased by 69 thousand persons or 2.6% in comparison with the previous year, and decreased for 9 straight years.
1.2. Under the influence of the much progress of the annexation of municipalities, number of Japanese internal migrants in 2004 was 5,772 thousand persons, decreased by 190 thousand persons or 3.2% in comparison with the previous year.
2. Net-migration for Tokyo-to showed plus excessively
2.1. Looking at net-migration by prefectures, 10 prefectures showed plus : Tokyo-to(rate of net-migration 0.60%), Kanagawa-ken (0.26%), Okinawa-ken (0.21%), Aichi-ken (0.16%), and so on. It has increased by two prefectures compared with the previous year.
On the other hand, 37 prefectures showed minus: Aomori- ken (the lowest rate of (-) 0.46%), Nagasaki- ken (0.39%), Nara- ken (0.34%), Iwate- ken , Wakayama- ken and Akita- ken (0.32% each), and so on.
