Summary of the January 2010 Survey Results

(1) Employment 

  The number of employed persons in January 2010 was 62.13 million, a decrease of 790 thousand or 1.3% from the previous year.

(2) Unemployment 

  The number of unemployed persons in January 2010 was 3.23 million, an increase of 460 thousand or 16.6% from the previous year.
  The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 4.9%.
